The Long Layover Checklist: Don’t Miss a Thing

A calm, ordered plan for turning a long layover into rest, food and maybe a shower — without missing your onward flight.

A long layover is only stressful when you improvise it. With a short checklist, the same six hours become a shower, a meal, a nap and a relaxed walk to your gate.

The moment you land

  • Confirm your onward gate and boarding time on a live screen — not just your ticket.
  • Check whether you need to change terminals, and how long the transfer takes overnight.
  • Decide airside or landside now, based on where you can stay and what you need.

Set yourself up

  • Find the nearest 24-hour food and a water refill before shops close.
  • Locate showers, lockers and the quietest rest area near your gate.
  • Top up your phone at a power outlet while you plan the rest.
OVERNIGHT TIP

Store your big bag in a locker and explore light. You will rest better without guarding a suitcase.

Before you sleep or wander

  • Set two alarms with a comfortable buffer before boarding.
  • Note the walk time from your rest spot to the gate — add extra for overnight transfers.
  • Keep your passport and boarding pass on your body, not in the bag you are using as a pillow.

Open your airport’s overnight guide for the exact locations of showers, lockers and rest areas so you spend your layover resting, not searching.
